About the Artists

Hardluckstudios is located in interior Alaska, near Fairbanks. We quit our day jobs in 2007 to create and distribute artwork full time.

Hardluck Studios offer free licensing of images by Dubh to causes that support human rights and soical awareness.

Dubh's passion is for creating works that raise awareness of human rights and social issues that are now rampant on a global scale. In 2010 he began offering limited free licensing of his work to causes that support human rights and social issues. Hardluck Studios has donated several prints to the Haiti Art Fund Auction: www.haitiartfund.com. Dubh's "Earth Peace" has been donated to the Flag of Global Peace and Love, and his original painting, Keeping Karmic Time, is for sale for donation to Katog Choling.

Dubh (pronounced "dove")
studied art at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas in the mid 1980's. He spent the next 20 years working in forestry and flooring. Dubh returned to his artistic passion full time in 2006 when approached by a local friend and author to provide illustrations for a children's book. (See freelance design for more information.)
Dubh's formal artistic training was in oils, but he has since retrained himself to paint in watercolors. He is capable of logo design, graphic design for business signage and t-shirts, and book illustrations.
About his method: While Dubh does make use of some white guache in his paintings, for the most part the opaque look in his work is achieved by building layer upon layer of color.
Dubh would love to do an album cover for a rock band with a social message such as Led Zeppelin or Wolfmother.
Artist's statement: "If I had to choose a category in which to insert myself, it would probably be an atheistic-humanist with Buddhist tendencies. My life philosophy is absolute freedom and equality for all humans. I enjoy creating artwork that inspires people to take positive actions regarding human rights, freedom for all, and a safe and healthy world environment.
Personal motto: "All gods are false and most men are asleep."
